Crossroads at The Cross?

February 28, 2008

Welcome to “He said, She said,” where we take a common question or topic and see if members of the opposite sex can get on the same page, or if they’ll have to agree to disagree. Today’s topic:

Can a couple be successful when they don’t share the same religious beliefs?

Falling off the pedastal

February 27, 2008

“I’m disappointed in you.”

It’s been years since those words were seared into my subconscious like a hot knife through butter. Four simple words constructed a statement that left an indelible imprint on my psyche and my heart. In retrospect it was a seemingly harsh reaction to a rather uncomplicated situation, but who am I to judge another’s disappointment?

Wake up, Alice!

February 26, 2008

Dear Eve,

I have this tendency to let people take advantage of me… let women cheat… listen to blatant lies… watch people steal… not necessarily because I have low self-esteem or some masochistic desire to feed, but because I have this incessant (and sometimes morbid) curiosity to know how far people will take things when they think that I (or others) fail to notice. I’ve spent a great deal of time and energy exploring my own dark side and limitations, so now I guess I want to know everyone else’s too. Is this really THAT strange? Is it just as unfair to my friends that I knowingly let them sabotage our friendship? Eve, when is too far really TOO FAR?

“There would be no one to frighten you if you refused to be afraid.”
-Mohandas K. Gandhi

I am claustrophobic. I am sure that to most of you that simply means that I am afraid of enclosed spaces. I wish it were that simple.

A more accurate description of my incarnation of this phobia might be the fear of not having an escape route. Anyone reading this who shares this terror with me understands this is the predominating feature; you feel an undeniable need to be able to get out…and quickly.

Is the grass really greener?

February 21, 2008

In our world of instant gratification and the perpetual need to obtain the unobtainable, at what point in our lives do we resolve ourselves to finally being satisfied? Not only satisfied with who we are as individuals but with the one we’ve chosen to share our time with. Is it just a process of evolution that allows us to get to a place where we no longer feel the need to look for something seemingly superior? As human beings we have fundamental desires that can’t be ignored, but can they be controlled?
