We should be looking out for every child's best interest. Women needed to be warned that postpartum is a real and common issue, their partners need to know as well. Resources should be made known. I had a taste of post partum and I can tell you one of the biggest problems about it. No one wants to say the things they are thinking because they know someone will call them crazy or take their kids away. You just know it will pass, so why bring it up?? God forbid you aren't the perfect doting mother everyone expects you to be. Burn her at the cross!!! I have talked to friends who have had kids years ago and they all agree. Not necessarily killing them, but hurting them, or not helping them if they were to fall, etc. What you goes through after child birth isn't normal. I believe this with all my heart. Pair that with taking birth control pills asap to dry up the milk and the ex hubby shoving ephedrine down my throat, needless to say I was a fucking LOON. I like you was lucky though and had a support system. I think in the case of Andrea Yates she had too many kids and the depression/mania piled up and she just snapped one day. Does this make it ok? Hell Fuck no. But it does beg the question, if this happens so much, why don't counselors get assigned to each new mother and check on them once a month for 6 months? If you can't handle your child, every parent should know BEFORE they leave the hospital what options they may have. I say they get what they deserve and we make sure they dont have kids again to do this too... I know a woman who has 7 kids and they all are up for adoptions and she just had a newborn, and more than likely that one is going to be put up.
