It definitely felt like a Prize Fight, one that went well beyond a regulation 12 rounds. There was no clear KO, or even a Technical. In the end, we threw in the towel and flipped the hoods over our eyes as we walked back to our respective corners. Just like that, a 4 year Relationship ended in what felt like an emotional Battle Royale.

Not once or twice, but three times yesterday I was asked, “soooo, how’s your love life?” in that inquisitive yet sympathetic way that married women pose the question to single ladies. (Ugh! I got it. You’re married, I’m not. Get off your pedestal!)

Ahhhh…the aroma of fresh coffee, the scent was familiar but the surroundings were not. Blurry raccoon eyes, a mouth that tasted like the bottom of a gutter and flashbacks of the previous evenings bouts of tonsil hockey can only mean one thing…someone was a filthy dirty whore who didn’t leave her first date P.D.A on the dance floor.

Not so long ago I pitied the likeness of what has now become my own reflection…a 30-something, single and childless woman. A woman who has strategically maneuvered her way through life’s obstacles and now finds herself contemplating drastic measures in order to get what she’s looking for.
